A post shared on the Facebook page of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society told the story of the dog Panfilo, who escaped during a road trip with his owner, Roughiatou, to Santa Fe.
Before reuniting with his owner, Panfilo was taken to the shelter as a stray. While monitoring shelter websites, Roughiatou spotted the puppy on the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society website, which prompted her to fly back from her home in Maryland to New Mexico to retrieve him.
“Stories like this make us all smile a little wider and remind us that pets are truly family,” wrote the shelter’s director of philanthropy, Pamela Weese Powell, in a statement on Facebook. “We’re so grateful to be here as a resource to families and to our community.”
