The Great Dane, who stood over one meter tall, earned the title of the world’s tallest living male dog in 2022. He was only three years old and would have turned four in November.

He died of pneumonia after surgery to remove his right front leg due to cancer. He passed away in the early hours of Tuesday with his head in the lap of his “beloved owner Brittany,” according to Donnie Davis, Brittany’s father.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved dog, Zeus, Guinness World Records holder for the world’s tallest living male dog. Zeus died on Tuesday morning from pneumonia related to the amputation,” Brittany told the Guinness World Records website.

“Zeus was a truly special dog. He was gentle, loving, very stubborn, but always happy to see his family and many, many friends on his adventures around Dallas and Fort Worth. Zeus packed a lot of life into three short years and was ready to beat cancer.”

“Zeus had the best doctors and nurses working around the clock to help him, but in the end, he was very ill,” Brittany added. “We would also like to thank everyone who reached out to us with their condolences. It means a lot to us at this difficult time.”
