According to Dr. Clarissa Porter from PetSmart, these care measures mainly involve regular visits to the veterinarian, 1 to 2 times per year, to detect conditions such as diabetes, kidney and liver diseases, cancer, and arthritis early on.

Additionally, one must be cautious about cold weather; like humans, kittens can suffer in winter and develop illnesses, especially respiratory ones, if not protected from the cold.

The doctor also emphasizes that when observing signs of aging, such as difficulty in normal activities (e.g., climbing stairs), owners should consult a veterinarian. The professional may prescribe medications to relieve pain or even recommend the use of orthopedic beds to address arthritis issues.
