According to the New York Post, in 2016, while Osthoff was homeless, Santos, then using the name Anthony Devolder, promised help for the surgery of Osthoff’s dog, Sapphire, through a GoFundMe. However, the money never arrived, and Sapphire died before receiving the surgery. Osthoff, no longer homeless, hopes Santos’s departure from Congress will lead to justice.
Santos faced various controversies, including the misuse of campaign funds on OnlyFans subscriptions and spa treatments. He was also accused of writing bad checks to Amish dog breeders and faces federal charges for campaign funds misappropriation and illegal use of COVID unemployment benefits.
Santos, who pleaded not guilty, was the sixth member to be expelled from the U.S. House of Representatives. Osthoff, currently employed and living with his new dogs, hopes the expulsion will lead to progress in criminal charges against Santos, whom he calls a “scumbag idiot” for causing his dog’s death and negatively impacting his life.
