1. Basset Hound
Basset Hounds are loyal, patient, and very tolerant of other humans and animals. Their relaxed and lazy nature makes them more likely to embrace a cat than to chase it.
2. Pug
Pugs are incredibly affectionate towards practically anyone they encounter, whether human or feline. They hate being left alone, so a feline companion might be just the thing to help manage their separation anxiety.
3. Bulldog
They may look a little grumpy, but Bulldogs tend to be big softies. Renowned for their friendly temperament, they easily make friends with all animals, including cats.
4. Labrador Retriever
Enthusiastic and outgoing, the Labrador Retriever is one of the friendliest breeds you’ll encounter. They may chase an unfamiliar cat, but they should become great friends with felines that are part of their household.
5. Papillon
An adult Papillon is approximately the same size as a cat, which may be one of the reasons why they seem to have a natural affinity. It’s a breed that enjoys playing and doesn’t mind whether their companion is another dog, a human, a cat, or a tennis ball.
6. Collie
Collies were bred to herd livestock, so they naturally get along well with other animals. Famous for their love of children, this affection often extends to cats as well.
7. Golden Retriever
What holds true for the Labrador Retriever is generally true for the Golden Retriever as well. This is certainly the case when it comes to feline friends, with the Golden Retriever being an equally excellent feline companion.
8. Beagle
Bred to hunt in packs, beagles have a natural affinity for being part of an animal gang. While traditionally it may have been other dogs, they are just as likely to see a cat as another member of the pack.
9. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Another cat-sized dog breed, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel can form great friendships with felines. They are not aggressive but are fearless, which means they won’t be intimidated by their feline companions.
10. Bichon Frise
Bichon Frises are incredibly happy and energetic dogs that want to be friends with everyone. The only issue you may have is that a cat might find their puppy-like friendliness a little too much when they want some alone time.
