Check out a complete list of foods you should never give to your cat and prevent them from consuming them accidentally, according to experts from The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA):

Alcohol

Alcohol can cause intoxication, lack of coordination, difficulty breathing, abnormal acidity, and potentially even coma or death.

Chocolate

Chocolate is dangerous to feed cats as it often contains caffeine, as well as theobromine and theophylline, which can be toxic and cause heart arrhythmias, muscle tremors, or seizures.

Coffee, tea, and energy drinks

These and other caffeine-containing drinks and foods can make your cat restless, have rapid breathing, heart palpitations, or muscle tremors.

Fat, meat, eggs, and raw fish

There is a risk of vomiting, diarrhea, salmonella, or E. coli associated with these foods for some animals, especially when administered improperly.

Grapes and raisins

Although cats are not prone to eat them, they can cause kidney damage, and it is best to keep them out of reach.

Marijuana and foods containing cannabis-infused butter or oil

Products made with concentrated THC (the psychoactive component of cannabis), such as cannabis butter, are often very attractive to dogs and cats, but they are even more dangerous and can cause seizures, coma, and even death.

Marijuana, if ingested, can adversely affect your pet’s nervous system and heart rate. Additionally, “edibles” can also contain chocolate or xylitol, which can have additional harmful effects.

Milk, cheese, and other dairy products

Cats do not tolerate dairy well and may become lactose intolerant. The consumption of dairy can cause vomiting and diarrhea in affected felines.

Onion, garlic, and chives

All members of the onion family can cause problems if consumed in large quantities as they contain disulfides and sulfides (thiosulfate) that can cause anemia and damage red blood cells.

Even meat products containing onion powder (like some baby foods) are dangerous for cats.

Tobacco

Nicotine can damage your pet’s digestive and nervous systems, increase heart rate, make it faint, and ultimately result in death.

Tuna

When transformed into cat food, tuna is good for cats. But too much canned tuna (prepared for humans) can cause health problems for your cat.

Yeast

Whether pure or in a dough, yeast can grow in your cat’s stomach, causing gas and discomfort.

They also emphasized the dangers of offering rhubarb and tomato leaves as they contain oxalates, which can adversely affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems, and citrus oil extracts because they can cause vomiting.
