With enormous claws, grumpy expressions, and dinosaur-like sizes, this is how cats appear in the photo montages created by Russian artist Andrey Scherbak.

What started as a hobby turned into a regular activity. Today, the artist runs an Instagram page with nearly 150 of these images and a loyal following of more than 30,000 fans.

Scherbak appears in several images, alongside his 3-meter-tall felines. Together, they visit supermarkets, marinas, beaches, and the streets of Rostov-on-Don, the city where he lives.

A creative director at a Moscow-based advertising agency, Scherbak told Bored Panda that he works from home.

The artist has two cats: a male named Pif and a female named Panya, a rescue cat who has autism.

Scherbak’s home also includes a Labrador named Rooney, who is now three years old and appears in some of the images.

According to the artist, the dog and cats live in harmony and never clash.

Scherbak says that the idea for these montages came about by chance. In a photo album, he saw a cat that appeared larger due to a perspective effect, and he decided to take it to the extreme.

The images of the cats he uses in his photos are sourced from Google searches.

To make the montages as realistic as possible, the artist says he spends an average of four hours in front of the computer.

He uses Photoshop and the VSCO app to create his compositions.

When he’s not working for his agency or creating giant cats, Scherbak enjoys walking Rooney and catching up on his reading.

Describing himself as someone who enjoys a reclusive lifestyle, the artist says he was surprised by the popularity and virality of his images.

Despite this, the success hasn’t gone to his head. He prefers to continue his controlled isolation, creating his “catsosaurs.”
