Rosie, a tortoise shell cat hailed by her owner as the “oldest cat in the world,” has passed away at the age of 33.

Rosie was born in 1991, according to her owner, Lila Brissett, and was found dead this week. Brissett, from Norfolk, England, said she adopted Rosie when she was still a kitten, telling the website Mirror.co.uk that her pet loved nothing more than sitting by a window.

“I miss her a lot. She wasn’t feeling very well, and one day she just walked into the hallway of the house, lay down, and passed away. But there are many good memories, and I’m glad we had our time together,” she said, adding that Rosie’s previous owner had given her up when they realized the cat was causing an allergy.

Her death means that the title of “oldest cat in the world” has now returned to Flossie, a 28-year-old cat living in Kent, England. It is worth noting that Guinness has only recognized Flossie, and not Rosie, as the oldest cat, because Brissett did not have her cat verified.

However, there is no way to know if a cat somewhere in the world is even older than Flossie. Nevertheless, Rosie’s death means that the record for the oldest cat of all time still belongs to Creme Puff, from Austin, Texas, who died in 2005 at the age of 38.
