Researchers analyzed data from over 21,000 dogs from the Dog Aging Project and discovered a direct correlation between the companionship of other animals and the enrichment of security and emotional satisfaction, contributing to a longer life.

According to the research, keeping dogs socially active was five times more effective in extending their lives than high-income owners, who could afford more frequent vet visits compared to low-income families.

However, the results depended on the age of the dogs. A stronger association was evident between the age of the owner and the health of their younger dogs, compared to older dogs.

According to experts, you don’t necessarily need to adopt another dog or companion animal, although it could be beneficial. But, according to the study, taking your dog to play with other animals of its own species can have a positive impact on its health.
