The dog that earned the title is named after Disney’s villain, Cruella de Vil. The dog’s owner, Tim Horsting, and his partner, Winny, describe the dog as “playful, affectionate, and friendly,” adding that “she is really very sweet.”

“On one hand, it’s nice that our dog wins an award, but on the other hand, it’s also annoying that people think she’s ugly,” said the couple from Wageningen, the Netherlands, to the AD website.

The pair has owned Cruella for four years, and Tim told the newspaper that his wife had wanted a Chinese Crested dog for a long time, and when she found a litter, they went to take a look.

“In fact, the dog chose her because she immediately approached my wife. At first, the idea of a Chinese Crested dog didn’t appeal to me, but when my wife came home with her, I was convinced. I saw that face and was enchanted.”

The couple says they decided to enter the little dog in the competition after realizing that Chinese Crested dogs are often the winners in “ugliest dog” competitions.

“We don’t find her ugly at all, but the Chinese Crested dog is a breed that is often seen in this type of competition. A Chinese Crested dog also won in the United States this year.”
