No one knows who the dog came with, but the hospital staff claims that it came with a patient. “The patient passed away, and the dog saw the patient being taken to the mortuary through the front door,” said Vikas Kumar, a hospital employee, to local news outlets.
“What the dog didn’t realize was that all the bodies are taken out through another door, so it’s waiting, hoping that its owner will come through the door where his body was taken.”
Another hospital staff member said she named the dog Ramu. He now receives home-cooked food from Maya Gopalakrishnan, a doctor at the hospital, who said that Ramu doesn’t like rice, but eats eggs and fish.
The touching story has gained a lot of attention from social media users, who have even compared Ramu to Hachiko, the famous Shiba Inu who waited for his deceased owner at a train station in Japan for ten years.
“It’s true. A dog loves you more than itself,” said one X user (Twitter). “The Indian Hachiko. Only the fortunate ones get to experience this bond,” commented another. “This broke my heart,” admitted a third internet user.
