Two Bolonka dogs were kidnapped in Switzerland last week, with a ransom demand of over $1 million.

According to the Zurich police, the two animals were stolen last week from the home of a 59-year-old man in Schlieren, near Zurich, while the owner was away.

When he returned home, the dogs were gone, and he found a letter demanding more than $1 million for their return. Instead of paying the ransom, the anonymous man called the police.

During the investigation, police arrested a 30-year-old Norwegian at Zurich Airport last Thursday (6), who they said was strongly suspected of being involved in the theft.

Following other leads, Polish police detained a 38-year-old suspect and found the kidnapped Bolonkas, which they safely returned to their owner on Friday (7).

Swiss police said that the detained Norwegian man is still in custody in Switzerland, and authorities in Poland are further investigating the Polish suspect.

Bolonka: a Russian breed

The Bolonka is a small dog breed originating from Russia. Its name derives from the Russian word “bolonka,” which means “lapdog.”

With an average height of 20 to 25 centimeters and a weight between 2 to 4 kilograms, they are known for their adorable appearance, including soft fur, large expressive eyes, and their charming floppy ears.

Available in various colors, including white, brown, black, and gray, Bolonkas are famous for being extremely friendly and easy to train, making them a great choice for first-time dog owners.
