According to the American Kennel Club, dogs can have mental health issues similar to depression, for example. The organization also stated that canine depression can manifest as an illness or chronic pain. Check out three possible explanations for your dog’s sadness:

Lack of physical exercise

According to PupLabs, your little doggie may face serious problems if they don’t get enough exercise. “Dogs need the opportunity to move freely off the leash from time to time. They need to be able to run, chase, and hunt occasionally,” they explain on TikTok.

According to information from PetMD, dogs can become irritable, reclusive, and bored when they cannot engage in certain physical activities daily.

Not respecting your dog’s boundaries

Dogs have feelings! PupLabs emphasized the importance of respecting a dog’s boundaries. “This means that sometimes, we all need a little space, and if you’re giving attention to your dog and they move away, don’t follow them, as it can really undermine your dog’s trust in you,” they explained.

Reprimanding your dog for things they don’t understand

PupLabs also stated that dogs can become sad when reprimanded for actions they don’t understand as wrong. “If they did something while you were at work and, upon returning home, you saw that your pillow was destroyed and scolded them, they won’t make the connection,” they clarified.
