A woman was arrested after police said she attempted to stab a dog with a knife, missed, and instead stabbed her 1-year-old niece.

The dog had stolen the sandwich from the 32-year-old woman just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, when she was in a hotel room in the northeast zone of Indianapolis, USA, with her sister and children.
She was trying to stab the dog in an attempt to retrieve the sandwich, according to WTHR, an NBC affiliate in Indianapolis.
The mother of the 1-year-old child was in a different room giving her son a bath when the girl was stabbed. The suspect immediately called 911 and fled.
When police arrived, they found the suspect in a nearby bush and arrested her for criminal recklessness. The 1-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital in “serious but stable” condition and is expected to survive.
The 1-year-old child suffered a fractured skull and needed stitches in her ear, according to a report from WTHR. According to the report, the dog escaped unharmed.
